Oh god. What the hell is going on? Lately, its like all the movies I've watched have been pretty good. Its much harder to try to be humourous when you actually like the movie.
And I liked this movie. I really liked this movie. Yes, you may have heard from other people that it was a little slow at times, and it was. But I think that putting up with the slower parts is totally worth it in the end.
Charlize Theron is the lead in this movie. First of all, she is so gorgeous. Second, she is such a good actress. Hey, even Paris Hilton thinks so: http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/entertainment/145852004.htm, but that's beside the point. I love her so much, and if Reese Witherspoon (and then Felicity Huffman) didn't deserve the Best Actress Oscar more, I would be rooting for Theron.
So Theron plays Josey Aimes, a woman who just left her abusive husband with her two kids. She heads to her parent's home until she finds a place to stay. Tension with her father does not help her stressful living situtation and she is under great pressure to find a job that will support her family. Her mother, (Sissy Spacek) feels torn between her husband and her daughter. Josey soon reunites with an old friend from high school, Glory (Francis McDormand who is fabulous in this movie!). Glory tells her that if she is looking to make good money, she needs to get a job at the local mine.
After working in the mine, Josey begins to realize the humiliating sexual harassment and physical assaults that take place against all the women who work there. Becoming more and more frustrated with the lack of action and acknowledgement by management and the heads of the company, Josie takes her case to the next level and files a lawsuit against the mine.
Well, I'm stopping here because its such a good movie that I don't want to spoil it for anyone. Just be warned that this movie contains some very harsh language and violent scenes, so its definitely not for the kids. I also found it very emotional. It was at least a seven Kleenex movie.

I thought this movie was ok, it wasn't top on my list, but it was pretty good. I do love her work, so that helped. I just.. couldn't seem to get completely into it.
My overall feeling through the movie was anger, the men pissed me off. I wanted to kick all their heads in - though.. maybe that's just me?
The only part that made me shed a few tears was the meeting where her Dad stood up for her. Then I was like 'FINALLY!'.
